Jo McCallum

Jo McCallum is a PhD candidate in the UK Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)-funded 3D3 program, a unique interdisciplinary Practice Research cohort encompassing digital art and craft, film-making, gaming, music and performance. Jo initially trained as an architect and architectural theorist at the University of Queensland, Australia. She also holds a City and Guilds National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in basket making from City Lit in London. Most recently, was awarded an AHRC International Placement Scheme (IPS) Fellowship at Nichibunken (The International Centre for Japanese Studies), Kyoto, where she has been researching bamboo weaving. Jo's PhD is focused on exploring the relationship between Japanese bamboo basket-making and architecture, in order to craft a pattern (formation) language for material computation.
